MAKOTOKAI

WHAT IS MAKOTOKAI KARATE?

Makotokai is a full-contact karate system founded by Master Paolo Bolaffio. Its training emphasises efficient body mechanics, contact, partner work and practical application.

Within DOJO BRUGGE, these principles are developed through karate practice together with methods from Chinese martial arts used for sensitivity, control, recovery and self-defence.

FULL-CONTACT KARATE

Kihon · Kata · Combinations · Kumite · Competition

Technical development progresses from fundamental movement to controlled contact and, for students who choose it, competition.

PRACTICAL SELF-DEFENCE

Reaction · Distance · Releases · Control · Striking · Weapons

Partner work explores how principles from karate and Chinese martial arts can be applied outside formal exercises.

INCLUSIVE TRAINING

Adaptation · Participation · Individual Progression

Exercises and intensity can be adapted while preserving participation in the training culture of the dojo.

“If it can be proven, then it works.”
— Paolo Bolaffio

WHAT TRAINING LOOKS LIKE

Training content and intensity vary according to age, experience and group.

INTERNATIONAL

FROM TRIESTE TO BRUGES

INSTRUCTOR

OLEKSANDR STASIUK

Makotokai Karate Instructor · I DAN

Oleksandr began practising martial arts in childhood and over the years studied karate, Wing Chun, Wushu, Chinese martial systems and practical self-defence.

His background developed across different schools and approaches rather than through a competitive sports career. Since 2008, he has taught martial arts and self-defence in different formats, working with children, teenagers and adults.

In 2024, he received I DAN in Makotokai Karate. Today he continues his development through Makotokai training, seminars and instructor education while teaching at DOJO BRUGGE.

Oleksandr also holds a Master’s degree in Psychology, which informs his interest in learning, adaptation and work with different students.
